Episode 88: 5 Skills All Good Special Educators Have

Open positions in the field of special education are quite plentiful these days and many of those jobs are being filled with individuals who may not have the degrees or credentials YET, but they have what matters the most... the heart.

Everything you need to learn about being a special education teacher is just that…it’s learnable.  The only real thing you need to have to begin this job is the heart. The desire to want to work with these special individuals.

The only real thing you need to have to have a successful career in special education is

❤️

The heart is what makes a good special education teacher. While all children need plenty of love and attention from teachers, children with special needs are most benefited by people whose personality traits enhance the learning process. Both passion and concern for children with special needs are necessary to be a good special education teacher.

So through this episode, I hope that I’m able to reach those individuals who are ready to go the extra miles that it takes to be a good special educator and I feel there are some essential skills that special education teachers need to either have, or learn quickly so that they can set themselves up for success right away and have a long, fulfilling career in this field.

The 5 skills I've identified as the most important for successful special educators to have are:

  1. Self Reflection
  2. Development of Relationships
  3. Communication Skills
  4. Organizational Skills
  5. Leadership Skills

Listen in to the show to see how all of these impact your career. These skills are for ALL teachers to learn...not just the ones starting out in this field. Chances are, even if you do have the degree and the certification, you probably struggle in one or more of these areas and that’s okay. As long as you have a growth mindset and realize that you have some learning to do of your own, you are going to make an excellent special educator.

And best of all...when you purchase the bundle you save $35!! That's a lot of savings. So what all will you get??
