Episode 105: 4 Tips to Improving Your IEP Meeting Room

Does your meeting room look like the inside of a prison?

You can do better my friend!

So you might be thinking…who cares what my IEP meeting room looks like…it has functioned well for years and it gets the job done.

I challenge you to make the IEP room all it can be! Help your parents feel comfortable, welcome and supported.

While I agree that what the room looks like is not going to have any affect on your IEP paperwork itself, it definitely could have a large impact on the relationship you are wanting to build with the parents of your students.

Parents may be feeling very overwhelmed and in need of some comfort during these meetings. Just the fact that they have to attend a meeting like this one to begin with is a lot to process and then when you add all the other factors...it’s just too much.

Take these 4 steps to make improvements to your conference room or IEP meeting room:

  • Warm up the room (visually)
  • Keep it cool
  • Be accommodating
  • Use anchor charts

Listen in to this episode to learn more about supporting your parents with just a few tweaks to the meeting room space.
