Ep #23: Supporting Paras in Inclusion Classrooms
One of the main roles a paraprofessional plays in almost all special education programs is to support students within the general education setting.
Inclusion is a term used when a student is educated, to the maximum extent appropriate, in the classroom he or she would otherwise attend. It involves brining the support services to the child and our paras need their own support in facilitating the inclusion process.
The less you are doing for the student, the better you are doing your job
In this episode of the Sped Prep Academy® Podcast, my friend Meaghan Garbutt shares how she supports the paras within her district as a coordinator.
We discuss how it's important to provide the paras with consistently scheduled trainings so that they feel listened to and heard.
Our paras can have a wealth of valuable knowledge about a child and their strengths and weaknesses and as teachers, we need to be tapping into this knowledge.
