#49 What Your Paraprofessionals Want From a Supervisor-Part 4

Today’s guest is the quiet powerhouse, Anali. Anali works as a paraprofessional within my department and is such a joy to get to supervise. There is no limit to what this girl can achieve once she sets her mind to it. She is passionate, creative and funny and we don’t know how we will ever replace her once she becomes a teacher herself. Anali also works for me part time as a virtual assistant and her organization and work ethic are stellar.

"I want a leader who is patient" -Anali

This podcast episode is the last part of a 4 part month-long series created to support the people we totally couldn't do our jobs without...

Our Paraprofessionals

Each week in August, a different paraprofessional came on the show to talk about their experiences in a special education classroom.

This series aligned with the launch of my course for special educators The Ultimate Guide for Training Paraprofessionals and is open for a limited time.

The cart opened Aug 21 and will be open until next week, but you you will only be able to get access to it for another week.

Having taught for 26 years, I have had lots and lots of experience of working with paraprofessionals...and it can be a very stressful part of a special educator's job, or it can be a very rewarding part.

It's all up to you!

But it does take time to learn how to be a good leader and it takes a certain mindset to be able to acknowledge that these paraprofessionals, or paras or assistants whatever you call them...they are important to our success as special educators and we couldn’t do our jobs without them.

On the show today, Anali shares...

  • What makes a good leader and a good para
  • How flexibility is super important
  • The need for collaboration between the Sped department and gen ed teachers
  • And why using a para binder is beneficial to paras
