Ep #32: How to Stay Organized as a Special Education Teacher

I like to joke that I’m a type A wanna be because I LOVE organization but fall short in making it happen. I love when things match and when everything has a place and a home and everything always finds its way back to its home at the end of the day, but I usually just half ass it when it comes to this area because I get busy and never  seem to put it at the top of my long to-do list.

"A lot of times with organization, the hardest thing for teachers is figuring out systems, routines and structures"

My desk is a mess and my space can be described as organized chaos. Any time my husband comes up to my classroom, he gets overwhelmed because he is one of those very organized people and he wants to start cleaning up and I tell him not to touch things because he might lose something important 😂.

So I asked Jenn Adams to come on the show to see if she could teach me her systems and turn me into the girl my husband wishes he was married to.

Jenn is the face behind the brand Teach Love Autism and after seeing her blogpost on color coding a special education classroom, I knew that she was a girl I could learn from.

Jenn shares tips for storage, structure and systems as well as the importance of making sure all your staff is on the same page on your expectations of classroom organization.

Jenn suggests a starting point with her Editable Weekly To Do List.

This allows any teacher to create a list of things that need to be done one time or recurring! Use this freebie to change the text to meet your needs while keeping you organized!

Enjoy!
