Ep #27: Training Paraprofessionals Using a Handbook with Stephanie DeLussey
If I had a vision board it would probably include a picture of Stephanie because I want to be her when I grow up. Although she’s way younger than I am Stephanie has blazed a trail ahead of me when it comes to mentoring and providing support to other special educators online through her website and social media outlets, and I am so thrilled that she agreed to talk with me on today's show.
Today Stephanie shares her knowledge and experience on using a para handbook within her own special education classrooms and I chime in because that's exactly what I use as well.
"This is a very loaded question" -Stephanie DeLussey
Within the episode, Stephanie and I answer 5 of the most commonly asked questions when it comes to using a para handbook as the framework for training your staff.
Together, we answer...
- How do I give my already amazing paraprofessional a para binder without making it seem "offensive" because she already knows so much?
- How can we ensure the paras are giving the appropriate supports to a specific student?
- How do you balance making the binder useful but not overwhelming?
- What do paraprofessionals want to have in their binder?
- How do you actually facilitate the training part...how much time does it take and when do I do this during my day?
