Sped Teacher Small Talk Segment w/Co-Host Paul Hubbard
The Importance of Parent Relationships
Talk about a tear jerker!
Today Paul, my monthly co-host, and I discuss the importance of developing strong, lasting relationships with the parents of the students we work with.
Paul shares an emotional story about a the bond he has with a previous student and her mom that conveys the amount of love special education teachers have for their students.
Paul and I both agree that, by establishing active collaboration and open communication between parents and educators, we can positively impact a student's progress and minimize issues on the parent's end.
Throughout the discussion, we provide valuable tips for:
- Effective communication before, during, and after Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings
- Strategies for building trust and partnerships, fostering open lines of communication, and valuing parents' input
- Addressing the importance of providing parents with relevant resources and information and
- Celebrating successes and milestones regularly
Join us in this episode as we discuss how strengthening parent-educator relationships can create a supportive environment and positively impact the special education journey.
