Why Sharing IEP Goals Benefits Everyone with Rachelle Sikes
Sharing common IEP goals between special education teachers and related service providers can be highly beneficial for the success of your students. By collaborating on goals, both parties can ensure that the student is receiving comprehensive support across different settings and addressing their individual needs.
It's double the data"
This approach can also streamline the goal-setting process and make it easier for both parties to collect and analyze data on student progress. Ultimately, shared IEP goals can lead to better outcomes for students with disabilities and improve their overall academic and functional performance.
Today, Rachelle Sikes joins me to discuss the importance of shared IEP goals with related services and HOW to actually pull it off.
Listen in as we discuss:
- How shared goals benefits the student by working on different aspects of the same skill, tag-teaming to work on the same goal, and double the data
- What's involved with choosing a skill that aligns with both of you and writing objectives for related services and academic/functional.
- The perks of having more (and different) data to show progress on the goal and how data can be reported by each provider
- What to remember when skepticism sneaks in
- Examples of shared goals include writing numbers from memory, identifying coping skills in therapy sessions, and answering reading comprehension questions using academic language.
